J&M Wine Merchants was named for Jean and Mairead as a tribute to two very important women in the JJ Mahon & Sons story. Jean and Mairead were at the very heart of the Mahon family, bringing us together over food, wine and good conversation.

  • David Mahon from J and M Wine Merchants

    David Mahon

    SALES DIRECTOR

    David Mahon is Sales Director at JJ Mahon & Sons. After Newbridge College, he joined the family business in 1993 right out of school and has proudly progressed from logistics through every role to lead sales.

    He’s proud of spearheading the west expansion with Connacht Bottlers and, in 2026, launching J&M Wines to bring premium wine choices to Ireland’s hospitality sector. Rugby has been a lifelong passion: he’s coached Newbridge RFC, the Leinster Junior XV, Monkstown Rugby Club (long-time coach and director of rugby), and Carrick-on-Shannon RFC, and is honored to serve as President of Monkstown for the 2026-27 season. Family ties run deep—his son Josh works behind the bar at Mahon’s Pub, and his daughter Betha works in J&M Wines, embracing the multi-generational spirit..

    HEAD OF WINE

    A highly experienced drinks industry professional with a 25 year career in sales, marketing, and portfolio management. Des has held senior roles across, key accounts, brand management and business development. He has strong commercial expertise and an extensive network of industry and media contacts. While pursuing his career in wine, he achieved the WSET diploma and was a lecturer for the Wine Board of Ireland.

     

    As head of Wine for the newly established J&M Wines, he oversees the wine portfolio: including product development, supplier relationships and business development.

    WINE SALES EXECUTIVE

    Betha Mahon is part of a family business with over 77 years in the wholesale trade, now bringing that experience into J&M Wines. She joined the business in June 2025 and is proud to be part of the next generation, working alongside her family.

    Betha works closely with publicans and restaurant owners, helping them find wines that suit their customers and their menus. She understands the day-to-day demands of the trade and aims to make things as easy and straightforward as possible - whether it’s putting together a wine list or helping you try something new.

    Friendly, approachable, and always happy to help, Betha focuses on building strong, lasting relationships with her customers. She’s passionate about providing a reliable, personal service that people can trust, while continuing the family legacy into the future.
